I think I was initially drawn to HR when I was in business school. I took an HR class and understood that there’s a people aspect of HR, but there's also the analytical aspect. So there is the numbers, but you do have face-to-face interaction on a daily basis.

Text: How did you advance your career from intern to manager?
[SPEECH: RILEY]
I started at ADP as an intern in the summer of 2015. I worked for the transformational management office, and I am now a manager of HR Business Partners.
I wanted to make the most of my 10 weeks, my short 10 weeks, as an intern. So about weekly, I set up meet and greets with people at different levels of the organization, as well as different areas of HR, just to meet them and get a general understanding of HR. And I think that networking those contacts have really helped me in my role as a manager one year later.
[DESCRIPTION]
Text: What is the best part about working at ADP?
[SPEECH: RILEY]
I think the best part of ADP is that there's so much opportunity. And I never want to be bored in my role. I've been here a year, and I don't think I've had two days that have been the same ever.
The exposure that I get as a manager of HR BP, supporting so many different functions, I get to meet a lot of people on a daily basis. I think it's also showing me that I can take complex projects that may be initially intimidating and break them down into manageable pieces that can be done efficiently and effectively, and ultimately, get the job done.

So to really help people develop here, I think it's about finding the right opportunities for them to really expose themselves to new situations, new types of people, new approaches, new kind of leadership opportunities. We try to find as much to kind of, you know, offer to people to get involved in things outside of their day to day role, potentially even just expanding their own day to day role to make sure they're there continuing to develop here.

Text: What does it take to be successful at ADP?

So someone I think that will be successful at ADP, at the end of the day, is a leader. So we're looking for people that are really driven, that are really passionate about the area they're applying to, the area they're getting involved in, and that they want to make a difference, right? So people that are excited about change, excited about creating change, working with other people that have the same level of inspiration and engagement, those are the most important aspects. So someone that wants to kind of do something bigger than just earn a paycheck at the end of the day and really drives sort of a greater purpose.
